hAPpY biRThDay, TriStAN!!!

It is always hard for me when my babies turn five. Five seems like the jumping off point for little boyhood. First elementary school then middle school, high school, a mission and married!! Why, oh why must babies grow up!!?? Like it or not, my Tristan is five years old today. I can still remember the way he smelled the first time I held him in the hospital. I think I held his teeny had and stared at him for hours. Tristan was born with a smile, and continues to wear it to this day. We so love our little T-Bird (for he will always be little to me), his laughter, his huge grin and those sparkly blue eyes.

10 Facts About Tristan

1. Tristan is a die hard Toy Story fan. For Christmas this year he wanted a Woody and a Buzz. Santa obliged, and T-Bird has been toting the two of them around ever since. He even had me inscribe his name on the bottoms of their shoes "in permanent ink, too!".

2. Sandwiched in the middle of a bossy big brother and a sassy little sister, Tristan has learned the art of diplomacy. He manages to keep the peace during playtime sporting dress-ups to appease Avery, whilst wielding to satisfy Landon.
3. He loves to eat, and boy howdy, the kid can put it down!! It is a mystery how he maintains his impish frame. Will and I are frightened for the cost of groceries when he is a teenager.
4. Tristan is a friend to all. He is a bit on the shy side with adults, but with a group of kids, he always walks away with a new best buddy. His heart always returns to his oldest and bestest of friends, Haleigh O'Donnal though. She and he have plans to marry when they grow up--many, many years from now.
5. Tristan is a collector of nicknames. Skib, Skibbard, Skib-Dave, Birder, "T", Sky-bibbard....But the one that seems to have stuck is T-Bird. He often introduces himself as T-Bird, and he is called T-Bird in both preschool and primary. The other day when I was picking him up from preschool, I called out to him using his given name. A mom standing close by said, "Oh, I thought his name really was T-Bird."
6. Our Tristan is a dirty dog! Whenever I send him out to play, he always comes in with half the playground on his person. Thank goodness for baths!!

7. T-Bird loves to sing. He can pick up the words to any song after hearing it just a few times. He always has a song in his heart.
8. Tristan is a really great big brother, especially with Sawyer. Those two are kindred spirits. Tristan tries to haul Sawyer around wherever he goes, and includes him in whatever game he is playing. T puts Sawyer on his push along/ride along toy and pushes him around the living room endlessly. Sawyer has even learned to crawl to his toy, stand up and push it to Tristan for a ride. Tristan always obliges.

9. A quick way to Tristan's heart is to hand him something new. A tooth brush, shoes, or a matchbox car. It doesn't matter. If it is shiny and new, it will make Tristan's week!
10. Tristan has a smile that could melt the polar caps. The best part about his smile is that it is quick to come out and it usually stays awhile. Tristan is a happy little man, and he makes others happy in turn.

So, happy 5th birthday, Tristan David Trezise!! We are crazy about you, and hope your special day is a special as you are!
