Sawyer's Procedure

We were finally able to get Sawyer's procedure done on Tuesday, after waiting for several months. He had to do a colon cleanse the day prior. I have never had to do one of these, but I have heard they are pretty rough, and after observing my poor baby go through one, I never want to do one! He was so super sad. All he wanted was a bottle of milk. I felt like the meanest mom in the world keeping him away from what he wanted. :( To top off all the drama, Landon was sick and vomitting. Will had to take a sick day on Monday to sit with Landon so Sawyer didn't get catch his bug. I was on baby Zilla duty to prevent Sawyer from finding a stray cereal piece or fruit snack, either of which would have been the ruin of his cleanse.
Will and I headed down to Phoenix early Monday afternoon. Sawyer had to fast from midnight on, and we thought that a two hour car ride with a hungry baby would be nothing short of tortuous on Tuesday morning. The plan was to keep him up as late as possible Monday night, and have him sleep in until we had to leave for the hospital on Tuesday morning. This was a great plan in theory. In reality, he barely made it past 8 PM, and was up at 4:30, sad and hungry.
We reached the hospital at 7:30 to check in. He was scheduled to go in at 9 AM. They finally took him back at a quarter past 10. It was a loooong morning. By this point, Sawyer was past sad, and had moved on to being MAD. He would barely have anything to do with me, and if someone other than Will even glanced at him, he would swat at them and yell. He refused to wear the hospital issued gripper socks, and we barely managed to wrangle him into a gown. He hated his hospital bacelet and spent a lot of time trying to tear it off. It took two different nurses to weigh him, get his length, and do a pulse ox. He did a whole lot of screaming and yelling while we waited. I think he is now a top contender for "Most Difficult Patient at Banner Thurnderbird, EVER". He finally fell asleep just minutes before they took him back. What a blessing that was. Will just handed him to the nurse, and she wisked him away.

I cried. A lot.
The whole procedure only took about 30 minutes. He took almost that long to come out of the anesthesia. The hospital messed up and sent the wrong parents back to be with him when he woke up, and that had this momma bear slightly riled up. We came back just as he was starting to open his eyes. They were giving him a pedialyte bottle as we walked in. He downed that in a couple of minutes and grunted for another. The second pedialyte bottle went down just as quickly, and was followed by a pediasure bottle. He managed to slow down and actually taste the third bottle. When he finished, he would not let us have the empty bottle back. He just held it in a vise grip and grunted if he thought someone was trying to take it.
He was a sleepy guy the rest of the day, and was in bed by 6 PM that evening. It was a rough couple of days, but worth it. The Dr. said everything looked healthy, and now we are just waiting for the biopsy results.
Two days later, he is no worse for the wear.
