I am not sure if there is such thing as "early nesting", but if there is, I am suffering from it. I am 22 weeks along today, and I woke up this morning with an urge to get stuff done. Well, not really. I was only planning on doing the floors and laundry-my typical Monday chores. Then I walked into Landon and Tristan's room. Disaster Area. Bedrooms are cleaned each night before bed and I remember helping them last night, but the magnitude of this mess suggested their room hadn't been put in order in weeks! Did I mention it was only 8:15? How they made such an epic mess so early in the morning is beyond me. Avery's room was not much better. My blood began to simmer. I told everyone to get in their rooms, and get to cleaning while I finished with the breakfast dishes and got some laundry going. About 15 minutes later, I checked their progress.
Nothing. Not a thing. Perhaps worse even. My blood started to boil.
To add insult to injury, Landon and Tristan's dresser is broken. It has been for about a month. The drawers no longer go in, and the bottom two drawers are sitting on top of one another. As it always seems to go, the dresser caved in just when times were a bit tight around here, so we were making do until mid August. I looked at that pathetic excuse for a dresser and something in me went off. We have been storing a perfectly good, mostly empty dresser for my sister, Jenny in our garage. I sent her a text to see if we could put it use, and she agreed.
I cleaned it out, reinforced the drawer bottoms with some gorilla glue (to prevent breakage?), and hauled it into the house. I went through all the clothes, and transferred them into the new dresser.
After that, I kinda went crazy. As long as the drawers were looking so lovely, the boys' room might as well match. I dumped everything out in the middle of the room, and went through it all with a fine-toothed comb. Avery's room was next. Then the hallway closet. Then the junk drawer and the two cabinets above it. Then I vacuumed all the floors and still managed to wash, dry and fold all the laundry in between.
Will came home at lunch, and his eyes almost fell out of his head. He has experience nesting a time or four, but today's cleaning spree reached epic proportions. I Will was slightly frightened at what may lie ahead in the coming months. We potentially have a good 14-18 weeks left of this craziness.
For tonight, I am satisfied with the progress. I keep peeking in those impeccable bedrooms and opening those immaculate drawers and smiling.
The only downer is I filled the trash can to overflowing, and the garbage doesn't get picked up for two more days. All well. It seems a minor irritation in the grand scheme of things. Maybe I will send Will over to use the neighbor's garbage bin after dark. They never fill it all the way up anyway. I am sure they won't mind.
