This is Avery's first year of softball, and Sawyer's first year of t-ball. They are both SO excited! Today they held opening ceremonies, and then they each had their first game, and they both had a blast.
Sawyer got to play pitcher. He loves batting. Fielding, not so much. He was ready to be done by the 2nd inning. Luckily, we only play two innings. ;)
Will and I are coaching his team this year, but unfortunately, he had to work today and missed the game. True to his awesome fashion, he arranged for one of the young women in our ward to help me on the field, and had an idiot-proof line-up and field rotation all set up for me. My bestie, Sarah O'Donnal stayed and watched the game and wrangled Sterling for me. We got through the game and the kids were ecstatic to have snacks. There were no tears. That's a success in my book.
Avery got to play catcher, pitcher, and outfield today. She got a hit on her first at bat!! I cheered so loud, I am now hoarse. :) She was the only one from her team to show up and walk during opening ceremonies, so two coaches from another team (Angelique and Jayne) walked with her. I am so grateful for them. She wanted to walk SO bad, but not alone. I couldn't walk with her because I had to be with my little tballers. These two ladies stepped right up, grabbed her hands, and walked with a very nervous Miss A.
Avery loves her uniform and wearing eye black. Her batting leaves a bit to be desired, (She stood on homeplate and faced the pitcher for her first at bat.) but Will came home from work and took her and our next door neighbor's daughter, Dacie, to the park to practice. They'll get it. Dacie's mom is one of Avery's coaches. That has been a lifesaver for rides to and from practices.
