Awesome Weekend-Part 3, Still at the Zoo

We spent the rest of the afternoon checking out the other animals with our personal tour guide. Jared knew all kinds of fun facts about the individual animals like names and silly stories. We were checking out the goose, Lucy when Landon announced that he could see "goose poop". He spent a good two minutes paying homage to the poo. The next animal we encountered was the bald eagle. I pointed it out to Landon and said "Look, that is out national bird. Isn't is big! Can you see it?" He gave the enclosure a cursory glance and said "Yep, I sawed it." and was on his way. Two minutes on goose poo, but barely a glance at one of the majestic symbols of our great nation. I don't get it.

My kids would not go into the petting zoo because it "smelled yucky". They played outside in the Little People play area while Jaxon, the sheep whisperer checked it out. He was very casual about his encounter, leaning against the wall, stroking them with his fingertips. Upon questioning, he said "Yep, I'm pettin' a sheep." The boy has mad skills when it comes to handling wild farm animals.

The pis de resistance for everyone was getting to pet the stingrays. Well, except Jaxon, who was DONE with the zoo at this point. Landon was a little hesitant at first, but once he got his first feel, he was totally into it. Even Avery loved it, although I don't think she actually touched a ray. Her arms were a little short to reach down very far, but she didn't seem to mind. Tristan was mesmerized. He found a shallow end where there were several rays hanging out, and didn't take his hand out of the water or lift his head for the whole encounter.

I hope Jared is up for another visit to the zoo sometime soon. My kids are already talking about going back. Thanks also go out to H & P & J for babysitting and accommodations!
